E2 Ministry is our strategy for spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ at Mountain View Bible Church. We believe this two-fold style of ministry is the means to carrying out the Great Commission: “Go and make disciples…teaching them to observe all that I commanded you…” – Matthew 28:19-20 Everything we do can be summed up in two categories of ministry: edification and evangelism.
Edification
The ministry of reaching in. Edification focusses on the building up of the Body of Christ through the process of discipleship.
Jesus commanded the church to “go and make disciples” and He told us the way to do this – by “teaching them to observe all that I commanded you.” Making disciples requires more than filling a church; it requires Biblical teaching and accountability. We believe at the core of the Great Commission is a mandate for true discipleship – that is, helping our people to grow to maturity in Christ so that they can reach out more effectively (Ephesians 4:11-15).
Evangelism
The ministry of reaching out. Evangelism focusses on reaching out to those who don’t know Christ through the process of outreach.
Obviously, the Great Commission is Christ’s mandate to “go” and make disciples. It is this “going” that is outreach. In order to “make disciples” who observe Christ’s commandments God’s people must reach out to this lost world. Evangelism is the key. We believe evangelism begins with the individuals who make up our congregation reaching out to those around them outside the church. We also believe the church must do outreach corporately through various ministries and events.
To sum it up, MVBC’s strategy for spreading the Gospel of Jesus is E2 Ministry. We believe that the essence of the Gospel is Biblical edification (ministering to believers) and Biblical evangelism (reaching out to non-believers). Everything we do must fall under one of these two ministry umbrellas.
