Outreach is a passion for missions. Here at Mountain View we do our best to promote a passion for people who don’t know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. We believe this starts with the individuals who make up MVBC. A passion for individual missions is the foundation for successful outreach.
Discipleship and Missions
In our view, the best way to promote fruitful evangelism is to provide genuine discipleship opportunities (See Discipleship). A discipled people is a people passionate for missions. Conversely, it is possible to have much missions without real passion for lost people.
Therefore, our strategy for evangelism begins with our people growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18). We believe a proper understanding of the grace and knowledge of Jesus is essential to successful missions. Without understanding grace and without knowing Jesus personally, a person cannot reach out properly with the true Gospel.
Rooted in the Grace and Knowledge of Jesus
When a person is rooted in 2 Peter 3:18 a sincere desire to reach out will be instilled in them naturally (or better put, Spiritually) leading to spontaneous evangelism. This is the path to real, meaningful missions.
When Jesus gave us the Great Commission to “go and make disciples” (Matthew 28:19-20) He was speaking primarily to individuals who were to make up the church. A church is primarily responsible for growing it’s people to maturity in Christ (Ephesians 4:11-15). When a people are grown to maturity in Christ they will live evangelism like breathing the air. It will become a part of who they are in Christ. A true disciple of Jesus will, by necessity, always have a passion for missions.
